How far is Yanchep Lagoon from Perth?

What is the best time to visit Yanchep Lagoon?

It’s best to plan your visit is on a lower tide and when there is an easterly breeze for prime snorkelling and swimming conditions. Be wary however that most people will have the same idea so it can get pretty busy during these conditions, particularly if they land on a weekend.

Is it safe to swim at Yanchep Lagoon?

It is very safe to swim at Yanchep Lagoon. The reef provides protection from the waves and larger marine life and the beach is patrolled in the Summer season.  Do be careful however when the tide is coming in, this can create strong currents and surges in and around the reef area.

What’s the snorkelling like at Yanchep Lagoon?

The Lagoon Yanchep is well known for snorkelling and is the main reason many go there. Best conditions are on a lower tide before the waves come in over the reef and when the wind is from the east. Depending on the tide the depth is up to approximately 5m. You can expect to see a large variety of fish and other marine life, particularly closer along the length of the reef. Can you walk on the reef?

Taking a walk along the reef is highly recommended. The reef is exposed on a lower tide and you are bound to find all sorts of shells, corals, starfish and other marine life. Remember however you can get up close and have a look ,but don’t touch. Leave nature as you found it and leave only footprints. Don’t forget to take a pair of aqua shoes to protect your feet from cuts and stings on the reef.

What facilities can be found at the beach?

Yanchep Lagoon is a patrolled beach during the Summer season. There are toilets, showers and change facilitiies located at the beach.

Are dogs allowed at Yanchep Lagoon?

No. Dogs are not allowed at Yanchep Lagoon however Yanchep Dog Beach is located just south of here.

Is there somewhere to eat nearby?

Orion Cafe (also known as Yanchep Lagoon Cafe) overlooks the lagoon and is the perfect place to enjoy something to eat and drink after your swim and snorkel. It’s open daily and has plenty to choose from on the menu including main meals, light meals, treats, hot & cold drinks and ice-creams.

The Yanchep Lagoon is the perfect day trip from Perth destination. It’s best visited during the Summer months when the tide is lower and there is an easterly blowing for absolutely pristine snorkelling and swimming conditions.
