The Lancelin Sand Dunes are segregated with areas for sandboarding and areas for ATV’s. 2WD parking within a short walk to the Lancelin Sand Dunes is available and there are also 4WD tracks and parking that take you further into the sand dunes. 

What is the best time of year for Sandboarding in Lancelin?

The optimal time to visit for sandboarding is during spring and autumn. The summer months may also be suitable but could be a little too hot during the heat of the day. September to March, when the weather is pleasant, and the dunes are less likely to be affected by rainfall. Spring and Autumn offer the best conditions for sandboarding, with clear skies and warmer temperatures that add to the overall enjoyment of the activity.

What to bring?

  • Long clothing – if you plan to be out in the sun for most of the day, consider covering up with long sleeves and long pants.
  • A cooler and a packed lunch/snacks – the parking area is located close to the sand dunes so you can head back to your car for a break from the sun and enjoy a packed lunch/snacks. The sand dunes are also located close to the main town so you can drive into down for a bite to eat then head back to the sand dunes afterwards.
  • Water – bring plenty of water, it’s hot out in the sun and there are no food or drink vendors at the sand dunes. Bring along your insulated water bottle or pack some drinks in a cooler. 
  • A sandboard – bring your own or hire a sandboard in Lancelin.
