Where is Hearson’s Cove located?

Hearson’s Cove is located on the east side of the Burrup Pennisula Dampier.

How far is Hearson’s Cove from Karratha?

It’s a 27km drive from Karratha to Hearson’s Cove.

Is Hearsons Cove 2WD accessible?

Yes, access to the Hearson’s Cove carpark is available to 2WD via a short graded dirt track just of Hearson’s Cove Drive.

Can you take your car on the beach?

You are able to take your car onto the beach. A 4WD or All Wheel Drive vehicle is recommended.

Can you swim at Hearsons Cove?

The calm protected waters make this the perfect spot for swimming and paddling while staying in or visiting Karratha or Dampier.

Can you fish at Hearsons Cove?

Fishing is allowed at Hearson’s Cove and it’s a popular spot for throwing in a line and catching fish. You can expect to catch Coral Trout, Red Emperor, Scarlet Sea Perch, Spangled Emperor and Norwest Snapper here.

When is the best time to visit?

This is a beautiful spot for swimming and fishing all year round. It’s best to visit on a higher incoming tide for swimming and a low tide for exploring the intertidal zone. May to October is also a great time to visit Hearsons Cove to see the spectacular Staircase to the Moon event when the full moon rises over the exposed tidal flats on an extremely low tide.

Can you camp on the beach?

Camping on the beach is not permitted. You can find information on where you can camp in the local area at www.karratha.wa.gov.au.

Are dogs allowed?

Yes Hearson’s Cove is dog friendly.

What facilities are at the beach?

There are several picnic tables and BBQs on the beach. Toilets are also available across from the carpark just a short stroll from the beach.
