Craigie Bushland Quenda Walk

Craigie Bushland Quenda Walk

The Craigie Bushland Quenda Walk is located within the Craigie Bushland (near the Craigie Leisure Centre) within a fully fenced enclosure designed to protect the local quenda population. The bushland Quenda Reserve features 6km of walk trails amongst tall marri and tuart trees, wildfllowers, birdlife and of course Quendas, if you can spot them.

Where is the Craigie Bushland Quenda Walk Trail located?

Craigie Bushland is located behind the Craigie Leisure Centre. You can park here and access the Craigie Bushland through the gates located here. However, the best location to park is on Addingham Court (where there is parking for a few cars), if you want to enter at the top of the ridge and use the staircase to make your way down. The view over the bushland from here is nothing short of spectacular. The staircase is often used by exercisers as a northern suburbs alternative to Jacob’s Ladder. Note: there is also another staircase accessible within a short walk from Unicorn Place.

Are the walk trails marked?

All walk trails are well defined and range from bitumised pathways to compacted limestone and some loose dirt trails. This makes some of the walk trails accessible for wheelchairs and prams. Signage, guide posts and a few park benches are also located along the walk trails.

What is in place to protect the Quendas?

The Quenda Reserve is surrounded by a predator proof fence and several double gated entry points. Be sure to stick to walk paths and not wander into bushland to ensure not to disturb the surrounding environment.

Are dogs allowed?

Dogs are not permitted within the Craigie Bushland Quenda Reserve and must remain outside the fenced area to protect the quendas and other wildlife. Fines apply for dogs that are found in this area. You can walk your dog on a lead on the walk paths around the outside of the Quenda Reserve which is still very much a beautiful walk.

When is the best time to see Quendas?

Quendas are nocturnal and are most active around dusk and dawn. There are no open and closed hours for the Quenda Reserve so you can enjoy a walk and spot for quendas and other wildlife at any time of the day or night.
