Most people are pretty familiar with Bells Rapids in the Swan Valley. Many who visit however may not be aware that just over the other side of the railway is the magnificent Bells Falls. The Bells Falls Loop Trail is a relatively short hike (~2.9km return) starting from the Bells Falls Lookout.

How do I get to Bells Falls?
You will need to drive to and park at the Bells Falls Lookout. From here you can walk the Bells Falls Loop Trail. Visiting Perth and need to hire a car? Check out the great rates at Europcar.
Can you see Bells Falls without walking?
Yes. Bells Falls are visible from the Bells Falls lookout on Campersic Road.
Where is the best place to start the Bells Falls Trail?
The best place to start the Bells Falls Loop is from the Bells Falls lookout on Campersic Road. From here you can follow the trail down to the falls then make your way around the loop trail (see map below). Many people access the Bells Falls Trail by parking in the Bells Rapids carpark and crossing the railway line, however this is not actually permitted. The Bells Falls Loop Trail starting from the Bells Falls Lookout is the safest way to do this trail. It also means you can explore a little more at the top of the falls at the end of your walk.
How long is the Bells Falls Trail?
The trail is approximately 2.9km’s return, and will take you an hour or so depending how long you stay at the falls or if you decided to explore the top of the falls. The walk from the Bells Falls Lookout to the bottom of the falls is just under 1km return.
How difficult is the track?
The trail is graded as moderate as there are lots of muddy, rocky sections as well as steep rocky inclines on both the main and alternative Bells Falls Trails. I highly recommend wearing hiking boots or shoes to prevent slips and falls when walking across rocky and gravelly sections. The trail is not suitable for prams, bikes or disabled access.
What is there to do at Bells Falls?
The hike down to the falls and around the trail loop includes some climbing across rocks and walking up and down some steep and slippery slopes. If you do the whole loop around the water course you’ll enjoy the challenge of trying to get across the water back to the base of the falls. It’s definitely a trail for the adventurous. The scenery along the way is just stunning with the water running and a couple of sections with smaller scale waterfalls.
At the base of the Bells Falls is a swing, that has been strategically placed for the best Insta shots! It’s a nice spot to sit and enjoy a packed snack or lunch. I could have sat there all day and enjoyed the serenity.

Can you swim at Bells Falls?
There are some sections of shallow pools if you want to have a dip, however the water is obviously pretty cold during winter when there is the most water falling. During summer there is less water present, so it’s not a waterfall that’s reknowned for swimming.
What is the best time to visit Bells Falls?
Winter after lots of rain is definitely the best time to visit. If you are not sure how much water is flowing, one way to find out is to head to Instagram, search for #bellsfalls, choose recent and check out the latest photos. If there aren’t too many recent photos it’s pretty safe to say there isn’t too much water running. Note: it can get very busy during winter on the weekends and parking can be difficult. If you plan to go at this time, get there as early as you can.
Can you take your dog on the Bells Falls Trail?
Yes dogs are allowed on a lead. Even so, it is a tough trail to walk with lots of slippery steep inclines and uneven ground, so keep this in mind when deciding whether to bring your dog or not.
Are there any cafes at or near Bells Falls or Bells Rapids?
You’ll have to head back onto the Great Northern Highway to find a cafe. On the weekends during the busy season (winter/spring) you may find a food truck or two serving refreshments in the Bells Rapids carpark.
