When visiting or holidaying in Karratha or Dampier, Western Australia, a day trip to Point Samson, that includes a visit to Honeymoon Cove is an absolute must. Tucked in behind the tavern, Honeymoon Cove Point Samson is one of the region’s best beaches for swimming, snorkeling and soaking up some sun on the sand, that doesn’t require a boat to access. This cove is protected by the rugged red cliffs each side that frame the white sandy beach area.

How far is Honeymoon Cove?

Honeymoon Cove is a 40 minute (57km) drive from Karratha and 50min (78km) drive from Dampier, Western Australia.

Is Honeymoon Cove worth visiting?

Absolutely! This is one of the best beaches in this area that doesn’t require a boat or 4WD to access. It’s a great spot for swimming, snorkeling, fishing, exploring the reef and sunbathing. It makes the perfect addition to a day out at Point Samson.

Honeymoon Cove, Point Samson – Rock Pools

If you want to make a day of it set up a beach shade, catch fish off the rocks and explore the rock pools to look for fish, crabs and octopus too. Don’t forget to bring along your reef or aqua shoes!

Is Honeymoon Cove 2WD accessible?

Honeymoon Cove is accessible with a 2WD via sealed road from the Point Samson Town Centre to the carpark

Is it good snorkeling?

Definitely bring along your snorkeling gear. There is lots of marine life to see under the water around the rocky reef and the water can have excellent visibility as the area is well protected from the elements. 

What facilities are at Honeymoon Cove?

There is a toilet block and a few outdoor showers in the carpark at Honeymoon Cove.

What is the best time to visit?

Honeymoon Cove is a must visit all year round. It’s warm in winter and super hot in summer so it’s always a nice spot for a swim. Preferably visit on a day that’s not too windy and if you want to swim, visit on a mid to high tide.

Is there a boat ramp nearby?

The Point Samson boat ramp is located just a little further down, at the end of Honeymoon Road. You can then drive your small boat or jet ski up to the beach at Honeymoon Cove.

Is there somewhere to eat nearby?

You simply can’t visit Point Samson without stopping in at the Samson Beach Tavern for a drink and a meal. The upper level looks out over the ocean and you’ll love the beachy vibes of this classic little country town tavern.

Are there places to stay nearby?

There are a few accommodation options in Point Samson. This is the perfect place to stay or holiday if you like to park the car and walk everywhere. The tavern is walking distance to all the accommodation parks and Honeymoon Cove. Accommodation options include Samson Beach Caravan Park & Chalets, Point Samson Resort (chalets) and The Cove Holiday Village (chalets and caravan / camp sites).
