Yanchep National Park

Distance: 50km North of Perth City

Yanchep National Park is a popular day trip from Perth destination for nature lovers. The park is known for its stunning wetlands, woodlands, and limestone caves. One of the major attractions here is Crystal Cave, where visitors can marvel at the exquisite stalactites and stalagmites. Yanchep boasts a resident population of western gray kangaroo and also features a Koala Viewing Area. John Forrest National Park

Distance: 30km North/East of Perth City
Major Attractions: National Park Falls | Hovea Falls | Swan View Tunnel | Eagle View Walk Trail
Open: 24 hours

Situated in the Darling Range, John Forrest National Park is Western Australia’s oldest national park. Its diverse landscape includes dense forests, granite outcrops, and scenic waterfalls. The highlights of the park are the magnificent Hovea Falls, which cascade down a series of rock steps and the National Park Falls (pictured below). Visitors can explore the park through various walking trails, including the popular (15km return) Eagle View Walk Trail, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. The infamous Swan View Tunnel is also worth the (6 km return) hike from the John Forrest National Park picnic area. Birdwatchers will be delighted by the park’s abundant birdlife. Serpentine National Park

Distance: 65km South/East of Perth City
Major Attractions: Serpentine Falls | Kitty’s Gorge Walk Trail
Open: 8.30am – 5pm daily (however gates close when capacity is reached – so may close earlier on busy days)

Nestled within the Darling Range, Serpentine National Park showcases a picturesque landscape characterized by steep gorges, cascading waterfalls, and the iconic Serpentine Falls. The falls are a major attraction, offering a refreshing swimming spot amidst the natural beauty. Adventurous visitors can embark on the Kitty’s Gorge Walk, a challenging 14-kilometre trail that takes you through dense forests and along the Serpentine River to the town of Jarrahdale, rewarding hikers with stunning views along the way. Beelu (Kalamunda) National Park

Distance: 40km East of Perth City
Major Attractions: Mundaring Weir
Open: 24 hours

Located in the picturesque Perth Hills, Beelu National Park is part of the larger Darling Range Regional Park. The park offers an excellent opportunity for outdoor enthusiasts to explore its vast network of walking and cycling trails. A highlight of Beelu National Park is the Mundaring Weir, a historic dam that provides a tranquil setting for picnics and barbecues. The nearby Perth Hills Discovery Centre offers insights into the park’s flora, fauna, and Aboriginal heritage.

Walyunga National Park

Distance: 41km North East of Perth City
Major Attractions: Bells Rapids | Bells Falls Loop Trail
Open: 8.30am – 5pm daily

Situated on the banks of the Swan River, Walyunga National Park is best known as being the home of Bell’s Rapids. It is a beautiful natural retreat known for its rich cultural heritage. The park is also home to ancient Aboriginal rock art sites, including one of the largest know Aboriginal campsites around Perth. These can be seen on the 6.4km return Syd’s Rapids and Aboriginal Heritage Trail.

Visitors can enjoy scenic bushwalks, birdwatching, and picnicking along the river. During the winter months, the park comes alive with the sight of wildflowers in bloom and the opportunity to witness the seasonal Avon Descent, a thrilling white-water race.
