Whether you seek relaxation, swimming, surfing, or simply the pleasure of a breathtaking sunset, Perth’s beaches offer a paradise of experiences. Here we will delve into the best beaches in Perth, and include the best spots to sit back and admire the amazing Perth coastline over a meal and a drink.

Cottesloe Beach

12km from Perth City

Cottesloe Beach is an iconic Perth gem known for its captivating views, vibrant ambiance, and incredible sunsets. With its powdery white sands and inviting waters, Cottesloe is a favorite among both locals and tourists alike. After a refreshing swim, saunter along the bustling Marine Parade. Here you’ll find an array of beachside cafes offering gastronomic delights.

In particular, the renowned Cottesloe Beach Hotel, boasting panoramic ocean views, offers a diverse menu featuring seafood delicacies, Australian classics, and international flavors. Whether you’re indulging in a sumptuous seafood platter or sipping on a refreshing cocktail, this iconic beachside venue will elevate your Cottesloe experience.

Scarborough Beach

15km from Perth City

Scarborough Beach is another jewel in Perth’s coastal crown, celebrated for its great waves and high-energy atmosphere. Surfers flock to Scarborough’s reliable waves, while sun-worshippers bask in the abundant sunshine on its expansive sandy shores. When hunger strikes, there are numerous cafes, restaurants, bars and ice creameries nearby cater to all tastes.

There are many to choose from and some of the favourites are The Peach Pit, Peters by the Sea and The Lookout Bar, Bowl and Bites.

Trigg Beach

15kms from Perth City

Trigg Beach is a local favorite, famous for both its swimming-friendly waters and surf-worthy waves. It also has some sections of reef that offer an incredible snorkeling experience. It’s clear waters, grassy reserve and family-friendly amenities make it ideal for visitors of all ages.

When it’s time to replenish your energy, make your way to Canteen a beachside cafe that perfectly captures the laid-back vibe of Trigg Beach. If you fancy a more formal sit down meal, Island Market right next door also has you covered. Both have 180 degree view of the Trigg Beach coastline.

Leighton Beach

15km from Perth City

Leighton Beach, situated near Fremantle, offers a quieter alternative to some of Perth’s more bustling beaches. Its tranquil atmosphere, soft sands, and azure waters make it a hidden gem. It’s water and wind conditions make it super popular with kite surfers.

The Orange Box Cafe is located alongside the grassy reserve, at the main entrance to the beach (also where the toilet & shower amenities are located).  Open daily, this funky open air cafe has all the summer vibes with loads of casual and deck chair seating, giant outdoor games and plenty of room to lay out a picnic rug. It’s on a lead dog friendly and if you are lucky there may even be a little live music playing.

During Perth Spring & Summer (Fri – Sun), you can also park a little further down Curtin Ave (towards Cottesloe) where you can find The Beach Bus. This big blue, totally solar & battery powered bus is parked right at the top of the stairs that lead down to the beautiful Leighton Mosman dog beach. Serving acai bowls, healthy smoothies, toasties & coffee to enjoy in the open air dining area (also dog friendly), on a rug on the grass or down on the beach. This is a Perth summer beach experience not to be missed.

Mosman Beach

14km from Perth City

Mosman Beach is located just north of Leighton Beach, and is the perfect beach for a short outing for a swim, to walk the dog, laze on the beach and grab a coffee, smoothie or acai bowl from one of the local food trucks located in the car park afterwards. There aren’t any toilet or shower facilities here, so it’s not a beach you’d set up at all day, but is perfect for a quick dip and a chat afterwards with friends over a coffee. City Beach

10kms from Perth City

City Beach is dining / beach haven for all, featuring pristine sands and calm waters. It’s perfect for swimming, catching a wave, or relaxing on the grassy foreshore.

Enjoy a bbq on the grass over looking the ocean or enjoy a bite to eat and a drink at one of the many cafes or restaurants located in the City Beach dining precinct. Choose from Clancy’s Fish Bar, Odyssea, Hamptons and more.

Yanchep Lagoon

50kms from Perth City

Yanchep Lagoon is best know for snorkelling and is at it’s best on a lower tide, with an easterly breeze blowing. The outer reef creates calm waters and ample opportunities for snorkeling.

The Orion Cafe is located right above the Yanchep Lagoon and features both alfresco and outdoor dining with a big range of food, drinks and ice cream available for that traditional “by the sea” feed.

Mullaloo Beach

26kms to Perth City

Mullaloo Beach is a local favorite that exudes a welcoming, community-oriented vibe. Its sandy shores are perfect for swimming and sunbathing. The picturesque surroundings make it an excellent spot for picnics, bbqs and family outings.

When it’s time for refreshments, head to nearby Dome, Swell or the Mullaloo Beach Hotel for everything from a coffee to a sit down meal.

Coogee Beach

28kms from Perth City

Coogee Beach, south of Perth city is easily Perth’s most adventurous beach. With a big jetty to jump off and water slide pontoons out in the water (during warmer months), adventure is ready and waiting for you here. Or you can bring your own! The calm protected waters are perfect for stand up paddle boarding and kayaking and it’s a safe swimming area with a shark barrier in place.

The huge grassy foreshore, just a short stroll from the beach makes this a popular spot for group gatherings and bbqs. The Coogee Beach Cafe (open daily) is also located near the grassed area so you can grab a coffee or an ice cream or sit down and enjoy a light meal.

South Beach (South Fremantle)

25kms from Perth City

South Beach, nestled in the vibrant coastal city of Fremantle, is a hidden gem that offers both a pristine beach experience and a cultural adventure. With a dog beach section, it’s also a popular beach for dogs and their owners. Its calm waters are perfect for swimming, and the large nearby grassy area is ideal for picnics and gatherings.

The South Beach Cafe (open daily) on the grassy foreshore is your go to for a coffee, ice cream or sit down breakfast or lunch.

Bathers Beach Fremantle

21kms from Perth City

It’s not a huge beach, but Bathers Beach in the heart of Fremantle’s historical town is a beautiful beach for swimming and for lounging in the deckchairs in the sand while enjoy a beverage from Bathers Beach House.

Bathers Beach House is located right on the beach and you can choose to have your drinks and your meal brought to your very own beach deck chair, for a very “like being on holiday” feel.
