When the conditions are good Trigg Beach is a great spot to enjoy some casual snorkelling. It’s close to shore and well protected by the outer reef and has lots of inner reef and a range protruding rock to snorkel around.
When the tide is not high, Trigg Beach features a relatively shallow reef that’s protected by an outer reef and with lots of fish and other marine life in the inner reef, that also has sandy spots in between. You can expect to see lots Herring and Tailor in the reef and Whiting in the sandy patches.
During our snorkel we spotted a big range of fish, including large schools of fish as well as an eel, which was the highlight of our snorkel.
The protruding rock located not far from shore is a nice feature of this snorkel spot. The shadows around the rock make a nice contrast and there is lots of active marine life around the rock as well as some nice reef formations.
We based ourselves at the beach just a short walk north of the Trigg Beach carpark and just north of the protruding rock, but there is a beach access right in front of the Clarko Reserve – Trigg Beach carpark on the south side of the proturding rock. There is good all abilities access to the beach with a ramp and accessible mat, however this beach is generally a little busier. Trigg Beach also has an amenities block with toilets and showers.
After our snorkel we wandered up to Canteen for something to eat and drink. It’s located just a couple of minutes walk south of the Trigg Beach Snorkel area, overlooks the beautiful Trigg Beach and is a great place to relax and refuel after your snorkel. Island Market is also located here, if you are looking for a more formal dining, both are open daily.
If you are looking for a safe place for some beginner level snorkelling that’s suitable for younger children also, Trigg Beach won’t disappoint when conditions are good.
