Whistlepipe Gully is a 3.5km round walk trail in Kalamunda, located in the Mundy Regional Park 30km east of Perth, Western Australia. This walk is well known for it’s seasonal flowing waters and beautiful wildflowers in Spring. It’s an easy walk trail so it is suitable for most fitness levels.

Where is the best place to park for the Whistlepipe Gully Walk Trail?
There are two access points to the Whistlepipe Gully trail, one at Lewis Street and the other at Orange Valley Road. The Lewis Streetcar park provides much more parking and is located right at the start of the walk trail.
What is the Whistlepipe Gully trail like?
The trail is rated as a Grade 3 trail (recommended for people with some walking experience). It’s mostly narrow and quite rocky and muddy in parts, so it’s only suitable for walking (no bikes). The trail is circular and goes around the outside of the watercourse and takes around an hour from beginning to end, depending on how long you take along the way. There are some nice spots to sit by the stream so bring some snacks along and take in the Perth city views.
Are there any waterfalls or pools at Whistlepipe Gully?
Whistlepipe Gully is a narrow flowing stream, that slightly inclines down the coastal plain towards Perth. There are some very small waterfall sections. The streams of water are narrow and shallow so it’s not a spot for swimming. There are some nice cross over areas where you can take your shoes off, roll up your pants and wade through the cool flowing waters.
Is the Whistlepipe Gully trail easy to follow?
The signposted trail runs around the banks of the stream, making it easy to follow.
What is the best time to do the walk?
More water flows during winter and spring is a great time to spot wildflowers, so be sure to visit during these times.
Are dogs allowed on the Whistlepipe Gully trail?
Dogs(on a lead) are permitted on the Whistlepipe Gully trail. The narrow stream flows down the centre of this trail so it is a popular trail for dogs and their owners.
Are there views of Perth city from the trail?
The Whistlepipe Gully trail is in an elevated position in the hills overlooking the city, so you can enjoy beautiful views of Perth city and across the coastal plain along the trail.
What is there to see along the Whistlepipe Gully trail?
Along the way you’ll see water flowing, wildflowers, Perth city views and the foundations of a historical building (that existed here between 1963 – 1981). There are some lovely spots to sit and take a break on your walk. Pick a spot by the water and enjoy some packed snacks (just make sure you take your rubbish with you).

Summary
Whistlepipe Gully is an easy and scenic walk trail so it is suitable for most fitness levels. It is not too long at just 3.5km long and takes around 1 hour to walk. With beautiful city views, lots of flowing water (in winter and spring) and wildflowers in spring, this is a lovely nature experience that’s only a short drive (20km) from the city. It is for these reasons that this walk trail is a must for anyone who loves to hike or walk in nature.
