The Zamia Trail is the longest trail in Bold Park, Perth Western Australia. There are many trails through Bold Park and the Zamia Trail interconnects with many of them. The trail winds through many beautiful sections of the park that feature banskia and tuart woodlands, wildflowers and dense bushlands.  Along this walk are both views of the ocean and Perth city. The coastal ocean lookout is the highlight of this trail and is worth the few hundred metre return walk off the main trail.

How far is the Zamia Trail from Perth city?

The Zamia Trail is located in City Beach, just over 10 mins drive from Perth city.

How long is the Zamia Trail?

The Zamia Trail is a 5.1km loop trail that crosses may of Bold Park’s interconnecting trails. The trail is well established (mostly compacted limestone) and well sign posted. If you are not up for the whole trail there is also a ~1km return walk from Reabold Hill to the Ocean Lookout and back. The short walk and easy access makes this a great spot to catch a Perth sunset.

How difficult is the Zamia Trail?

The Zamia Trail is a Grade 3 trail so is suitable for most ages and those with an average fitness level. There are several inclines, however if you take your time you should be able to complete this trail without too much difficulty. The majority of the walk trail is compacted limestone so it’s suitable for jogger prams and all terrain mobility equipment.

Is there parking near the Zamia Trail?

The Reabold Hill Carpark is located right on the Zamia Trail, however there are limited parking spaces here and it is often busy given it’s proximity to be the Zamia Trail and the Reabold Hill Summit Lookout. 

If the Reabold Hill Carpark is full you’ll need to park a little further away in the Tuart Carpark just off Perry Lakes Drive. This will add 1km or so to your total walking distance.

What is there to see on the Zamia Trail?

The Zamia Trail has incredible views of both the coastline and the city. During the Perth wildflower season there are lots of wildflowers in bloom. The trail winds through stunning tuart and banksia trees and diverse bushland.  More than 300 species of plants have been identified within Bold Park.

Are there lots of wildflowers on the Zamia Trail?

During the Perth wildflower season (Spring – September to November), there are lots of wildflowers to see on the Zamia Trail. Both the Tuart and Banksia trees are in full bloom plus there are lots of other wildflower varieties to see.

Are dogs allowed on the Zamia Trail?

Dogs are allowed within Bold Park and on the Zamia Trail, however they must be on a lead at all times.

Can I ride my bike on the Zamia Trail?

Bikes /cycling is not permitted on the Zamia Trail.

Zamia Trail Summary

The Zamia Trail is one of Perth’s most popular suburban walk trails and hikes for good reason. With varying elevations, both city and coastal views and a hundreds of varieties of flora and fauna to see along the way. At just over 10 mins drive from the city the Zamia Trail offers a hiking nature experience without the long drive out of the city. It’s also a good walk trail for getting yourself adventure ready for longer hikes such as Bald Head Albany or the Cape to Cape.
